The President of the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, Amaju Pinnick has maintained that the Federation made no mistake in re-appointing Stephen Keshi as Super Eagles’ Head Coach. Speaking on the BBC’s Focus on Africa programme, Pinnick was categorical that Stephen Keshi with enhanced capacity, working together with a Technical Study Group headed by former Nigeria captain Jay –Jay Okocha and with the benefit of the world –renowned ProZone match preparation software would, in aggregate, be better than any foreign coach. We made no mistake in re-appointing Keshi. In his first term, Keshi did a lot to encourage the boys in the domestic League, and the boy who scored our winning goal at the Africa Cup of Nations, Sunday Mba, was playing in the domestic scene. “We don’t live in the clouds. If we wanted a foreign coach, we would probably go for someone in the class of Jose Mourinho or Arsene Wenger. We don’t have that money presently and we don’t want to be owing our coach,” he said.

The President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari has extolled the sacrifices of the Nigerian working class in the face of economic tough times in their everyday struggle to survive. In his May Day message to Nigerian workers, General Buhari said he was fully aware of the hardships of the Nigerian working class, which he said, was compounded by poor governance and large-scale pervasive corruption in the country. According to him, the Nigerian working class are among the worst hit social groups on account of poor living standards, a situation, he said was inconsistent with Nigeria’s vast oil wealth. General Buhari expressed dismay at the paradox of Nigeria’s oil wealth, characterized by rising poverty while a few corrupt officials are making themselves very rich at the expense of people’s wealth. The President-elect also regretted the fact that honest labour has been relegated to the background. He warned that a country that sacrifices honesty in favour of quick wealth by whatever mea...
